The chair Database Systems of the Faculty of Informatics at the Technische Universität München has already completed a number of successful research and development projects in the area of distributed query processing on internet data. A series of optimizing techniques for distributed queries was developed over the last years. Especially in the project ObjectGlobe distributed middleware technology for optimizing queries in a grid of cycle and data providers was depicted. Aspects of quality of service of the query processing and of meta data processing, based on distributed subscription were addressed. Ongoing work concentrates on the optimization of queries over (XML-)data streams.Actual Research Projects:

Service platform to investigate new technologies for web services, e.g. load balancing, distributed and extensible processing, context handling.
Platform to investigate new technologies for the optimized processing of continuous queries to (XML-)data streams, based on grid computing standards and P2P networks.
Platform to investigate new - especially data stream based - technologies for the data management in the e-science area, particularly astronomy and astrophysics.
There exists a cooperation with the German Astrophysical Virtual Observatory (GAVO).
